Yesterday's #whiskeywednesday blind tasting brough

Yesterday's #whiskeywednesday blind tasting brought to us by @312made ! This was a fun experience tasting, guessing, getting hints, tasting again. None of these samples were exactly what I guessed but I picked up bits and pieces of each as I went and had a great time doing it. One of the better ways to pass the time.

Working on tasting notes for this sucker. @barrellbourbon Batch 23. A blend of 10, 12, and 15-year bourbons from TN, KY, and IN. Cask Strength as it should be. My notes will be up on Chicago Bourbon in a day or two.

And if you haven't heard, Barrell Batch 21 took Best Bourbon at this years San Fran World Spirits Competition. Congrats team!

These two Bub City picks are fan-frickin-tastic. Weller Full Proof and New Riff. The Weller FP is everything I hoped it would be. Like Weller Antique but MORE of it! And this 4 year old New Riff blew me away with it's maturity and complexity. Going back tonight for more....

I had just arrived in Louisville for the 2019 Bourbon & Beyond festival when I was invited for a cigar and bourbon. The venue? Bourbon Hall of Fame member, writer, and bourbon historian Michael Veach's front porch. ⁠

After sipping from bottles I had never tasted before Michael invited us for a tour of his office; the 3rd level of his home. Here we saw so many bottles, both common and unicorn, sealed, opened, and empty. This is one of just a few photos I captured showcasing his desk and the MANY bottles that adorn it and his entire home. As one might expect of someone in his line of work.⁠

One of the perks of covering this industry is the opportunity to taste unique, and sometimes rare, whiskey samples. These 3 samples are the individual whiskey components that make up Beam Suntory Legent Bourbon. Beam 5 year bourbon, "Wine cask component", and "Sherry cask component". All presented at cask strength. My first question after tasting these was, "Can you PLEASE bottle the Sherry cask finished bourbon?!".
